7th Annual Mexican Independence Day Celebration in Utah.
Salt Lake City, UT—September 13-- Fiesta Mexicana, Inc. a nonprofit organization will showcase the unique history and culture of Mexico with its seventh annual celebration of Mexico’s Independence. This year’s Fiesta Mexicana will bring the participation of Mexican folkloric dance companies as well as local groups and organizations, which will prove to make the event a big success. The day long event will display Mexico’s rich regional diversity in dance, food and culture. In previous years, Fiesta Mexicana has attracted over 10,000 attendees for its family oriented, cultural event.
This year’s celebration of the 198th anniversary of Mexican Independence from Spain will include performances from internationally recognized Grupo Marimbistico of Chiapas UNICACH’s and dances from the Ballet
Folklorico of the Universidad Autonoma de Chiapasa.
Accompanying these groups is a delegation from the State of Chiapas including Congressman Carlos Arturo Penagos, Secretary of International Affairs, and Lic. Juan Carlos, CalYmayor, the Director of Economic Development.
Local Utah talent will share their culture through art, dance and music. These include performances from the Utah Hispanic Dance Alliance, Banda Flor de Palma, and Mariachi Sol de Jalisco to name a few. This exciting line up of music and performances guarantee an unforgettable fiesta. Fiesta participants can look forward to children activities, dancing, and authentic Mexican food from a variety of vendors. Other services include a free medical clinic and free immunizations.
Fiesta Mexicana will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2008, at the Washington Square located at 400 South and 200 East. Admission to the public is free. The festival will be held from 11am- 10pm. A solemn civic ceremony “El Grito de Independencia” will be held by the Consul of Mexico at 7pm.
